You're addicted to spinning when...

This cropped up in one of my groups today. Good thing because I am bored!

You know you've been spinning for too long when:

  • You can name every breed of sheep that comes on the tv screen.

  • You can guestimate how much yarn you can spin from any given sheep you see.

  • When you have to have one last feel of the freshly cleaned and dried fiber before you can go to bed.

  • When spinning comes before housework.

  • When your closet is full of fiber waiting to be cleaned.

  • When you cannot resist buying more fiber, even though you know there is plenty to play with in the closet.

  • When every furry animal that you see is thought of as "I wonder what sort of yarn that would spin into."

  • When you see something knitted in a store, and you think to yourself "I can wash, card, spin and knit that for less then what they want for
    it.".
  • When you love the smell of raw fleece in the morning.

Have any you want to add? If'd like to join my fun and open discussion groups check these links out:

    Until next time...

  • Houston, we have a leak!

Oh man! That stock pot I walked down and bought from the grocery store...HAS A LEAK!!! Great. Now I have to wait till the BF gets home from work and go back down there to exchange.

Plan B, spin up some more suri singles while watching Supernatural season 1-disc 1 that came from Netflix today.

    Humph.

    Until next time...

I've been socked! Oh the agony!

Well more like sock-ony because these are the socks I recieved in the sock war compatition. The are sooooo warm, a little big, but they will do me just fine. The lady even send me the label from the yarn she used: 80% merino! WOW, no wonder they are so warm! Must have been expensive yarn! Sheez, and here I am using some cheap yarn that the LYS is out of and is not sold in the UK where I am supposed to send these to. DOH!! I guess they will have to wait or start a new pair with something they already have. I stayed alive longer than I ever expected. But thanks to the no-brained host of this wonderful compitiion who posted everyones email address to her public blog....I have gotten so much spam! I know it is because of her because everyone got the same piece of junkmail. Now it is never-ending. Thanks so much. What a drag man. What was she thinking!!!! Could have just delayed the start date...or posted to a private forum! OYe. I hadn't recieved any spam up till then, thanks so much. Now, I have to apply for yet another email address....grrrrrrrr.
But I like the socks. The pattern was a bitch for me to knit, especially down the foot. Looks more like a man sock to me, but I will wear them anyways.

    Until next time...
AHhhhhhhh the weekend is here! I finished spinning up that Suri alpaca fiber that I was finally able to fully purchase and plyed it last night with the spun silk. All that spinning and I figured out after filling the bobbin to overflowing that it was only 276 yards! I need 1000yards! How did I figure that? Well my home-made kniddy-noddy winds approx 2 yards of yarn in one pass. I counted how many ends I had after I had it all wound off the wheel, multiplied it by 2 (2 yards each pass/per end) and that is how I figured 276 yards. So I only need about 730 more....ooooh my aching fingers!
I developed some blisters on my fingers from stretching and drafting the silk hankies...stronger than your average fiber! But it is worth it when you see it plied together with the suri! OOOOOo so shiney and soft!
Now I am off to dye it a golden yellow and knit some more on my Wing-of-the-Moth shawl!

    Spin on!

The danged guy is right when he says if we leave now, the terrorists will follow us home. Well Yah, NOW they will, it's too late to make it any better...he done went and fucked it all up!! They guy is a fuckin DORK!! Thanks for letting a dork run the country people. Thankfully I have no children that will have to deal with his fallout. Although I will have to deal with it when I am at retiring age. I won't get any of the money that is getting taken out of my check back because the government is sucking the SS funds dry. Work my got damned ass off all my life and I will get NOTHING in return. NOTHING. No health care help, no help AT ALL. Fucking country is going to hell, in a hand basket.

But I was thinking earlier today that history is repeating itself. The europeans came to this country and smothered the Native Americans. NOW, legal and illegal immigrants are smothering all native born people in the US. Immigrants get more help, more money, more grants more of everything while people like me-single unmarried native US born female- SUFFER the wrath of the government! THE GOVERNMENT IS NO LONGER FOR OR BY THE PEOPLE, IT IS FOR AND BY THE GOVERNMENT AND WHATEVER AGENDA'S THEY HOLD!!!

I am not happy about the times I live in.

    Those nifty DPN covers...

The ones that are anywhere from $6-12, yah...with the little plastic caps and the elastic that keeps you needles so organized while you travel. Finding a reference picture is nearly impossible.

Are cheaper than dirt to make on your own.

Screw covers-which can be found at any home improvement or hardware store for very-very little ($1, tops)

about 6 inches of elastic cording

two large crimps (found in the jewlery department of a craft store)

Hole punch or a hot poker

    How to make:

Take hole puncher or hot poker and poke a hole near the outside edge of the screw covers. String on one crimp onto the cording, fold cording over the screw cover through the hold leaving some dangle space-and crimp. Size the cord by placing the caps on your DPN's, pull the cording so they are snug, and repeat crimping for the other side. Trim excess cording and wa-la!

There. A very economic, cheap, and crafty DPN holder. No need to pay a fortune for your needle supplies-be thrifty!

    Until next time...

    Suri Alpaca fiber arrived!!

YAY! I've been paying on it for about a month. One pound for $40...kinda makes the heart jump up into the throat! But the fiber is sssssssssssssssso soft after it is washed (raw blanket) and sooooo shiney. Much shinier than the seconds I have. I wish I could find a cheaper source for it (hint-hint to you readers out there...I'm looking for a better deal). Anyone in Southern Wisconsin with Suri Alpacas?

    I bought it from Alpacas d'Auxvasse (www.alpacasauxvasse.com).

Pictures of the cleaned fiber coming soon!

    Wing-of-the-Moth Shawl and silk work

Here is my progress on the Wing-of-the-Moth shawl that is getting rave reviews across the net. I am using my own spun yarn of alpaca and silk, dyed golden yellow. You an see some sparkle off the silk in the yarn here and there. You can also see the stitch markers I made. Dispite my worries about the spirals gettin gin the way of my knitting, they have not caused me any problems. However, I will be making the spirals smaller on future sets. The lady last week who inquired about them and asked for 150 pieces, at $10 a set that came out to $250.00, I have not heard back from her yet. Oh well. I am told that $10 for a set of six peices like this set I am using is cheap! No worries. The local yarn shop asked if I would like to sell them there! Local buisness!
The next photo is a shot of some stretched out silk hankies I have on hand from when I ordered them last. I only spun a couple yards, maybe a hundred of the yellow yarn for the shawl and I need 1000 yards. I am trying pre-stretching the hankies to make spinning go quicker. This board is about a yard long. I LOOOVE the feel of the silk hankies....soooooo soft! It's a love affair with worm spit. LMAO!!!
