Sweater Recycling Fun!

I went to Goodwill today. I was on a hunt. A hunt to find unwanted knitted sweaters to recycle. Boy did I! I spent $12 on three loverly sweaters. My foot is there for scale because the one beige one is HUGE! That one is wool, I think. The white one is a cotton blend with some acrylic sparkle in it, and the colorful one is a a mystery. I looked for sweaters that did not have a tag. The big one was easily noticed as hand knit. But the colorful one is a commercially produced sweater, and getting the yarn from it (serged seems too) was not difficult.

I took the colorful one apart first. It was a four piece sweater. I ripped out the seems for the arms first and frogged away! OOOOo pretty! It is a novely yarn that is spun up with some blue tensil looking like stuff.

OOOoh yeah, yarn porn at it's best! I was all giddy over getting so much yarn for so little! That sweater was knit in strips so I have some white single ply yarn from it as well! I will need to ply it with some thread as it wants to pull apart too easily.

More pictures of sweater recycling froggin fun to come!

Falwell’s Flub: Jerry-Rigged Policy Opens Door For Pagan Proselytizing In Virginia Public School

This would be a good read if it weren't for the insulting Proselytizing headline. Dictionary says:

"1.To induce someone to convert to one's own religious faith.
2.To induce someone to join one's own political party or to espouse one's doctrine.

VERB: tr.
To convert (a person) from one belief, doctrine, cause, or faith to another. "

Pagans don't Proselytize, Christians do. If you meet a pagan in public, and that pagan sees a cross on your neck, that pagan does not stop to Proselytize at you to convert. BUT, on the other hand, you get a christian in there next to a pagan and chances are you will get asked a question or two, and then let the Proselytizing to convert begin! Silly brain washed people. How insulting that headline is!

Advertising about a pagan event, also, is not proselytizing.

But, it's about freedom for all religions, so I guess it isn't all that bad. Better choice in wording next time would do all the minorities some good.

Cleaning fleece...yucky fleece

Okay so I am finally getting my ass around to cleaning that fleece I won at the silent auction at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool festival. Well, one bit of advice....NEVER TAKE BARGIN FLEECE! This "shetland" fleece is SHIT! And in some parts is full of it too.

I have yet to have the pleasure of working with such a horrible fleece. I tell you what. Compaired to the samples a nice vender in Indiana sent me, this is truely a fleece down on the lower end of the quality scales. No crimp. Very little curl. Lots of dandruff. Lots of VM. Lots of course brown and silver hair mixed with the white. I am such a sucker for paying for this. I only paid $12...but it was on silent auction because it could not be sold otherwise because experienced fleece workers....knew better.

*pout*

I'm not sure if I want to work with it or not. It does not felt well, so wet felting is out of the question. It's ruff, so yarn is mostly out of the picture. I think I bought $12 worth of fertilizer for the garden.

Humph. BUT, on a positive note, I have ordered some higher quality fleece, one from a Shetland Ewe, and one from a Shetland x columbia/corriedale/domney yearling. OOOO they are so soft, plenty of fine crimps, and looks like it would spin up beautifully! It'll cost me $69 if the samples got to me in time that she can send the fleeces with a friend who is actually coming to Madison from Indiana, or it will cost me lots more in shipping if it is too late. I don't get paid till Friday, but in a pinch I can hit the cash advance place.

SO next I will be cleaning some Blue Lienchester (how do you spell that?) lamb fleece that I bought some time ago.

New knitting project and shoppings

The knitting guild is doing a knit along of the baby surprise jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman. The first photo is how it turns out, somehow, and the second picture is my yarn and color choices. I happen to have the fall looking skien in my stash...ready to be used for something, and I wanted to add a little floof so I went to the yarn shop after my morning runs (work, not toilet runs), and bought some matching Fur Real (mink). I hope I do not have to purchase more needles. I have a size 15 that I think will make the 6 stitches to the inch guage requirements. But if I do not then I will smaller needles so it will fit on one of my stuff animals, hopefully it will fit Pinky...my 26 year old teady bear. :)

I found some great deals last weekend. I found a 1 Gig SD card for the camera on sale with a mail-in rebate. So I got both mail-in rebates mailed yesterday (one for the RAM and one for the SD card) and now I wait for six or more weeks for my money to return to me. Humph. In the meantime...I am broke. But on the brighter hand, the computer is faster and I have more space for movies on the camera!

Until next time...
