Forget Brine Shrimp...Water Flea is the way to go!

Okay forget the brine shrimp idea. I might try to keep a small culture going in a 5 gallon setup but if that fails...water fleas are the way to go. I am reading more and more on Dalphnia (water fleas) and they are fresh water, and it seems they are easier to care for. We have a fresh water spring in one of the many nature preserves around here...and a swamp like area behind where I live, where the water fleas live. I will opt for the fresh water spring...and if it doesn't snow tomorrow I will drag the BF out to the spring to help me look for eggs catalysts. That should be fun in the now freezing temps! Why didn't this come up in the last three weeks when we had spring temps?!
Murphy's Law.

Until next time...

Holy Shit, he got it for me!!

The BF got me the Roboreptile toy that I have been googling over since it's predecessor, Roporaptor, came out! This one is much more manuvorable than the last one. And it is soooo coool!!! OMG! Roar-Roar!! I cannot believe it!!
It eats battery power like nothing I have ever seen, but then, that is why we use rechargables.

He also, after I crabbed him out over it, had the brakes looked out. Turned out that they were not as bad as he had dreaded them to be. It costs him a little over $200 to have new pads installed in the front brakes, and have the back ones cleaned and lubbed. Now the brake light is not on, and I can rest easy knowing the brakes are not going to fail. And the guy at Meineke said that if we had waited a few month more, they would have been in even poor shape than they were and would have cost upwards of 3 times as much. I told him. I said, see, I was right...waiting is a bad thing both for the hole in the pocket and for the truck. He said "Go ahead and say it-I told you do!" Of course I don't have too...he knows it. LOL
Mike said that he had planned on getting the brakes looked at anyways, and I am now asking why did he not say something when I was chewing him out over not taking care of it last week! I said, "If you had told me you were planning on fixing it this weekend, that would have halted my rant in it's tracks!!" Of course he doesn't know why he didn't say anything...*smacks forehead*. Then he told me that he had talked to the bank guy and told him about how the truck needed the brakes looked at because the light was on, and they worked something out so that he did not have to pay on the truck this month. Wow...I am impressed! I didn't think that would be something he would do (asking for help)! Now if he could ask for help on the rest of his financial ho-hums.....*grumbling like Marge Simpson*

What a day! AND...lets not forget...that the local Animart is moving, and they are having a moving sale. Everything this week was 30% off! So I bought a treat stick for Merlin, some java moss for Skye, and a brine shrimp hatchery. You how much that cost me? $12!!!! That is it!! The hatchery was marked 9.99 but it rang up as 6.99 PLUS 30% MORE off of that! *stumbles* Holy shit! SO I am reading up on raising and keeping brine shrimp colonies alive, and I see I will need some ocean salt, a hydrometer, and preferrably another 10 gallon tank. I've already put a request out for the 10 gallon on the local freecycle list...hopefully there will be a hit on that. If not, 10 gallons are not all that expensive.

This website had some nice information on raising them, and so did this one and this one and this one that talks about Daphina too. Apparently they are very much like seamonkeys...only more troublesome...HA!

So tomorrow I am going to visit Animart again and see if they have any sea salt left over (most of the saltwater supplies were picked through pretty good), a hydrometer, and something that I may be able to feed the hatchlings on till I can get a whole lot of algea growing.

Me and my projects...LOL

Until next time...

Where to learn Martial Arts

OKay, I may be crazy, but I got an ichin to learn Karate or some other martial arts training for self defense. I have no idea where to look, who to ask, or if I can even do such a thing...being overwieght and all. I want to do it for the weight loss, but also for the added benifit of learning self defense and self dissaplen. Yeah I can spel.
Anyone have information to help me out? Can a fat lady learn karate?!
Humph!

Creating Sacred Space

This was sent through one of the very few pagan groups I am still apart of (because so many of them feel so fake to me), and I liked it so much.

Creating Sacred Space
By: Keitha (FireWind)

Creating Sacred Space isn't as daunting a task as it first may seem.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the beginner can do this fairly
well even on the first try. Considering the amount of mail I get on
this topic, however, I think this might be a somewhat misunderstood
concept. So I hope this handy little guide will be of some
assistance.

First the most important burning question… What is it? What exactly
is it about a chosen place that makes it 'Sacred'? Well first of
all, you're Sacred Space doesn't have to be a space at all. It can
be a place in your mind. It can also be an ancient stone circle, or
your bathtub. It can be nowhere, and it can be everywhere. Confused?

This might begin to make a little more sense when we deal with the
next question: What is it for? Sacred Space is a place, whether
physical or not, that you have made 'safe'. It is a clean place,
free from every day worries and stress. A place where you can be
you. A place where you can be free. And it is in a place such as
this that you are free to encounter spirituality on a deeper level.
The reason you create sacred space before a ritual is because you
can't be fully aware, you can't be really free, if you are bound to
the mundane. So creating Sacred Space gives you that place to be
safe and secure.

So, that all being said, Where is Sacred Space, then? You can choose
a physical place - such as the space around your altar, for example.
This place is excellent for sacred space. During Rituals, it is
important to be in your Sacred Space. When taking a ritual bath, you
might want to make the bathtub/bathroom Sacred Space. You might have
a grove, or clearing in a forest, for your Sacred Space. Any and all
of these are a good idea.

But there is also another way to create your Sacred Space. You can
create a place in your mind that is your perfect Sacred Space.
Create anything you like. Set it up any way you please. If you could
create a perfect place, a truly magickal place, what would it look
like? A stone circle, a grove, a farm, a cave? Feel free here,
that's important. Experiment and change things as you go. This is
your safe place. Know that in your heart. No-one can or will judge
you here. This is a real place, known as your Astral Temple. When
you have designed this perfect place, visit it often, especially
when you are in a ritual frame of mind. It is there for you always,
whenever you need that bit of sanity and relief. When you meditate
or attempt to encounter the gods, you can do it in this place if you
like.

So how about Creating Sacred Space? We've already covered your
perfect place, how about that corner of your home where your altar
is? To be honest, these steps may seem quite familiar.

First, clean the place physically - dust, vacuum, etc. Then clean it
of everything else - sweep with a broom, make lots of noise, dance
around, meditate on the space becoming 'clean', etc. The goal here
is to remove all of the stale 'ickies' that generally hang around a
place. All of the emotions we leave lying around behind us like so
much dust. Then if you like, you can go around your space with the
elements, and bless the space. Visualize the space becoming Sacred.
Then Cast your Circle and make the space Sacred for as long as you
need it. That's it. You have created a clean, safe, and Sacred
Space. While you are in ritual, you may also want to visit your
Astral Temple (your perfect Sacred Space) to 'water the flowers', so
to speak.

Now when I imagined my sacred space in my mind, I came up with a stone circle on a grassy nole or hilltop overlooking a body of water. I dunno if this is the sea or just a lake but I loved it very much.

Then when I imagined what I could do to create it physically...I saw in my minds eye, myself sitting in the center of a circle that had a cluster of quartz at each directional point-and those sat on colored pieces of round fabric that cordenated with each direction. The colors were that of the Native American beleif (white, yellow, black, and red). So I may just gander at aquireing some large quartz clusters from Burnie's Rock Shop, when I have money again.

Snowflake Stitch Markers2

YAY! I found some nice snowflake charms on Ebay for fairly cheap. This is the set I have made up so far with them for stitch markers. If anyone is interested in purchasing a set, I have enough supplies for three sets. They are $15 a set, free shipping in the USA, standard shipping charge to outside the USA (somewhere between $3-5). I'll be making another set with the blue/purple bead after work today and posting another picture. If interested, just leave a comment with a way to get ahold of you and I will contact you.

Skye-The Betta Fish Part 2: FIGHT!

It was water changin time, and I wanted to get some serious footage of the color of this Betta. NOW you know why I named him Skye. :)

Until next time...

YIPES! I've been....TAGGED!!!

And here I was thinkin no one read this thang!

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.”

Oh gods....6 things?! I don't really consider what I do wierd...just different.

1. I really LOVE pea soup with pork hocks.

2. I'd rather make something rather than buy it pre-made. It's the challenge and then the pride of making it by my own two hands (even it costs me more in the end). I pride myself on self-sustainability.

3. I raise earthworms to eat my garbage, then go fishing with them in the summer. I'd like to eat the fish I catch, but the waters are too nasty for that.

4. I hug and talk to the trees. Seriously, I do...I have my favorites. Call me a tree hugger, it's no insult to me!

5. I love crows, and I can mimick them pretty darned well. I can also call em in.

6. I raise my own silkworms for frog food and silk.

NOW! For the six next very lucky contestants/bloggers...

HomeSpun Dreams, I have to Take a Knit, Knit Witchery, Life in a big purple bus, Rita's G-string, and Quit Wool Gathering!!

Need wieght loss suggestions, Rayovac ROCKS!

If anyone out there that reads this here blog, who is very over-weight, could suggest what I can do for a workout in the home (via DVDs), please let me know your suggestions. I have mild asthma, and when I push myself to walk up steep hills for a workout, I end up getting sick because I have to breath out of my mouth and I have to because I feel like I am suffocating. Yuck. I have some Sweatin to the Oldies...a couple kick-boxing things, and one ab workout but I am bored of them all. I need to loose some of the weight because my back as been complaining a lot...and it would be nice to be a little smaller. I need some that is easy on my knees, and doesn't require me to do fetal positions (cause you know that spare tire is in the way).

And Rayovac ROCKS! I had emailed them a couple weeks ago and asked if an older One-hour charger model that they made four or so years ago would handle charging the new, larger capacity 2800 batteries. They said that it would. Well, I tried it in good faith (thinking they knew more than I on the subject) and the newer batteries totally burned-out the old model. It smelled like burning electrical wire, and got unnervingly hot and all the while...made some kind of tinking sound that was not normal for it. So I emailed them back and told them this so that they would know for future reference. I also told them that we had to buy a new charger and that all we could find were the 3-4 hour chargers. I asked if they still made the one hour chargers...and apparently they do not. I guess it is not possible to charge the larger capacity batteries in such a short time without a fire hazard brewing in the charger.

What did Rayovac do upon hear that last part?

They apologized...and sent me a NEW charger-FREE without asking me if I wanted a new one (or me asking for one because I wasn't lookin for a freebie-I was just informing them), and it came today and it is the exact same model I purchased AND it has four new AA batteries in it!!! It it the Home and Mobile charger that comes with a lighter plug for charging on the go. Rayovac, YOU TOTALLY ROCK!!! Now we can charge twice as many batteries, and have one for the truck if we need it. *happy dance!* I've always been a Rayovac customer, mainly because they've been cheaper, but also because they were the first to come out with rechargeables those four or so years ago when I was in the market to buy them. Back then, the chargers were $30 but now they are significantly cheaper and a lot easier to find.

What Religion is your BRA?

And now, for a bit of humor deversion...

http://stampnknit.blogspot.com/2005/10/what-religion-is-your-bra.html#comments

A man walked into the ladies department of a Macy's and shyly walked up to the woman behind the counter and said, "I'd like to buy a bra for my wife."

"What type of bra?" asked the clerk.

"Type?" inquires the man,

"There's more than one type?"

"Look around," said the saleslady, as she showed a sea of bras in every shape, size, color and material imaginable.

"Actually, even with all of this variety, there are really only four types of bras to choose from." Relieved, the man asked about the types.

The saleslady replied,

"There are the Catholic, the Salvation Army, the Presbyterian, and the Baptist types. Which one would you prefer?"

Now totally befuddled, the man asked about the differences between them. The Saleslady responded,

"It is all really quite simple... The Catholic type supports the masses. The Salvation Army type lifts the fallen, The Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright, and The Baptist makes mountains out of mole hills."

Have you ever wondered why A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, G, and H are the letters used to define bra sizes? If you have wondered why, but couldn't figure out what the letters stood for, it is about time you became informed!

(A} Almost Boobs...

{B} Barely there. (At 28 years old...I am here-but I don't complain. I never wanted huge jugs in the first place and I got my wish! Boy howdy.)

{C} Can't Complain!

{D} Dang!

{DD} Double dang! !

{E} Enormous!

{F} Fake.

{G} Get a Reduction.

H} Help me, I've fallen and I can't get up !

They forgot the German bra. Holtzemfromfloppen!

Until next time...

Whew, what a weekend

Well I payed for shipping for my Smat pal through Click and ship and had the courier pick it up. That was convienent. I haven't heard from the lady I am sending too...I've sent her three ecards, and two emails. The ecards have yet to be picked up, and I have no word whether the lady is dead or alive. Hopefully alive because a package will be dawning her doorstep soon! I bought a few extras, some dyes and a book that was on her wishlist on Froogle. Hopefully that is up to date and I did not waste my money on the book.

I have not heard much of anything from MY Smat pal...I got one email...and nothing sense. Hopefully she is still alive and well too!

The Mystery Skien swap was a complete mess for a couple of days as I found out that someone (bitch) fucked with the database entries. You really cannot trust people online with anything! So I had to lock the databases and reenter a lot of information. To the one who did it, may you get yours in return ASAP!! Cursed foul creature!

I think everything is back in order now.....for now till the next fire comes up. Luckily I have some very helpful members who have jumped in to help sort through the madness. I had one lady get bitchy with me because I asked her to leave the group because she was not swapping. Oh boo hoo, it says right there on the homepage that the group is for PARTICIPANTS, not lurkers. Said I was a mean ol one and everyone else was nice in the group. I have many others to say otherwise, but her opinion be that....hers.

*sigh* I haven't mailed out the skien I was sending to a lady....yet. I have to get that packaged up and shipped. I've been too busy pouring water on the fires and trying to make sense of the madness.

The wing of the moth shawl is coming right along now. I had some doubts about starting the twin leaf pattern after all the pine cone I had done! But, the creater of the pattern said that everything on my needles was correct, and in seeing my stitch markers...fell in love with a set and order a set. Weeeeeeeeeee! So I made those up yesterday and those need to be shipped out too. *whew*

We have a new member of our pethold. A very pretty royal blue, turquoise with a touch of red on one fin-Betta. I bought a nice bowl setup for cheap and it has a red dragon-wings spread- and red gravel. It's very cool. I'll have to take some pictures later. We haven't named it yet...maybe Sky would suit it since it has such pretty blues.

I made up some potato soup for the guild meeting tonight. They are having a potluck. OH crap! I forgot I didn't put the ham in...well good thing I remembered!

I've been dealing with Laryngitus most of the weekend but I think it is getting better as it has moved out from my voice and into my head. Yippie....NOT. SQUEAK!

Until next time...
