Spot the baby birdie!!

Can you spot the baby bird?

How about now?

Now?

This guy is about the size of a half dollar! I found him and one other sibling that did not survive a fall from the nest. I found this guy in the middle of our walking path, and moved him to saver cover. I hope he makes it. He is so damned cute! This is a red-cap something or other.

Garden Testings: Very Low Potash...

According to this self testing kit, my garden soil is very low in potash which is essential for flower and fruit development...which explains why my pumpkins and cucumbers last year droped their flowers and never developed any fruit as a result. Nitrogen and Phospherous are very high, and that explains all the lucious leafy goodness all my plants had last year. All leaves and no fruit. I turn the garden soil every spring so lots of organics get into the soil. My soil is so loomy and black! Perfect for most veggies. The high N and P explains why my spinach is growing sooooooooooo well!

Thanks Mavin for the recipie idea! I went and bought me some skinless, boneless chicken breasts-split them in half and did what you suggested for the spinach. I added some chopped fresh tomato too (which is expensive this time of year!!). OMG....and on the formen grill it gets cooked just right...OOOOOoo we were having taste-bud orgasims!! The BF GOBBLED it up! HA! Pun intended!

But that does not explain why my tomatoes did so well last year!! I had sooooooo many cherry tomatoes that I was giving them away!! This year I am trying some Big Boy and Big Boy Hybrids.

I have no idea how to add potash to the garden, so I will need to call the greenhouse and ask them.

I am beginning to HATE CHARTER TELEPHONE!!

uGH! What a pain in the flippn ass this service is. My telephone service through charter is not working properly. My voice mail is not notifying me of new messages, the selective call acceptance is not allowing me to call my own number (!!!!) and it will not allowing my number to be added to the accepted list!! W.T.F!!!!

I hate calling Charter customer service because I either get some person with such a heavy indian accent that I cannot understand them, or they don't understand me (both have happened), or I get some numskull who doesn't know what they are doing on THEIR end (which has also happened), or here recently I call with my most recent issue and they have no fluckin clue what is wrong. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So they are gonna try resetting my number and see if that corrects it. *Marge-Simpson grumble groan*

If this keeps up I am switching back to TDS, which we have not turned off yet because we are still on contract with them for another month (I had contract services). It's either pay the extra month of services or pay a $200 for "early termination fee". Cripes. I have called charter CS nearly a dozen times in TWO WEEKS time for one issue or another. The last time I called earlier today I had to repeat three times what my issue was because they heard one thing and interpretted it to be something else. *face-palm* I'm sayin yes I know how that works, what I am saying is this is happening...argh.

I am so exhasperated!! Deep breath....deep breath....
RAIN!
We are getting some much needed rain finally. My 32 gallon rainwater reserve was nearly empty this morning when I went to water the plants. It's been so dry and hot that I have had to water my veggies every other day, sometimes more.

Thrummed Mittens

Yarn Forward Thrummed Mittens

Here is a pattern for thrummed mittens. I plan on spinning up the yak to make a pair of these. I am sure my hands will be utterly sweaty in these!!

Mail call!! Making a new gadget...

MAIL CALL!! I finally got the yak I ordered off ebay.

This is some super soft and lightly carded stuff! At 8 ounces for just over $13...this was a steal even with shipping costs!!

I am gonna gander at making another new gadget. A Mother Marion kick spindle. You can see one in action here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKXca2l0RPo

I have some arrow shafts from when I was into archery that already have the metal points on them. This is perfect. I have lots of scrap wood and I bought a lawn mower wheel of which I will have to either rip out the ball baring center or clue it in place.

Video Camera Tossing... DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

(video)
This is so trippy yet the man who made this beaches on another one of his videos about how many hits this silly short video got. Wow, wet blankie!

Wicked!

I had a wicked spinach and egg omlet this morning, with spinach freshly picked from my garden. MMmmmm, I had a balanced meal for once! Eggs were half cooked then shredded spinach was added, stired and removed from heat. I added garlic powder, pinch of sugar, pinch of salt, lots of peppar, and some shredded cheese. Two pieces of buttered toast and a class of red grapefruit joice. MMMMmmm GOOD TA GO!

I have so much spinach and I don't think we have any salad dressing that is anywhere near ediable. Now what do I do with all this leftever spinach?!

New Wheel, new roving, SHEEP!

While I was out and about Saterday afternoon, I stopped at Susan's Fiber Shop in Columbus. Someone had mentioned in one of my groups that her new room was lookin very nice. Indeed it is! Her new addition is very homey and welcoming with sheep at the back doors to boot!! I love how it is set up now. There is a place to sit and watch the sheep if you are so inclined too. Most of Susans sheep have dropped thier lambs and this cuttie was sittin right at the back door. It was a wonderful day to travel out there.

And while I was out there, Susan helped to fix that darned clankity that was happenin on my Kiwi. Seems that when I oiled the treedle hindges that the oil seeped into the wood around the the screws and softened the wood so that the action of treddling stripped the wood around the screws! That was causing the hindges to be loose and make noise. She also noted that the metel peice conneting the wheel to the treddle arms may need replaced sometime. Thanks for fixing it!

Susan also told me you should NEVER oil the ball barings in the center! I did not know that and of course the spinning wheel manufactures don't tell you these things so that you end up ruining the wheel and buying a new one. HUMPH! Ashfords manuals are all pictorial so there is no mention of this.

But I did end up buying a second wheel, a Louet s51 DT. I went in intent on getting a s10 ST but it was not as smooth running as the 51, and I am more than ready for an upgrade! The only thing I am not liking about it is the tension is not adjustable other than having to lace the flyer OR buy the $77 hi-speed flyer which I will do eventually. I cannot spin the Yak down an aquantence sent me to spin up for her (Nice lady too. She is just as dorky as I am! She told me if I would spin up the fiber for her I could keep half the yarn I get from it. WOW. But I have ordered yak down for myself so I will probably end up just sending it all back to her when it is all spun and plied.) The flyers hold a lot more than the kiwi which is a plus and it is sooooooo much more quiet when spinning! I brought it home and started spinning on it and the BF was amazed at how much more quiet it was. LOL
Susan is great with layaway. We were able to work out a deal where I could take the wheel home while still paying on it!! Susan, you made my weekend!!! She is one in a million!
(PS I am so loving this autosave feature on Blogger!!!)

In the last picture is what I am spinning on the Louet. It is a merino and silk blend hand painted/dyed roving. There was a lot in the braid I bought and it was cheap!! Twenty bucks for a whole lotta roving! I am loving it too...OOOOo it sparkles and is soooooooo soft! I think I will knit it into the candle-flame stole that is on knitpicks.com (free pattern BTW). I told Susan I am so gonna wanna buy more of this and she said she will be getting more inthe future. I rarely buy handpainted rovings because I can make them on my own, but merino and silk is a nice blend that I cannot do on my own without a drum carder. Of which I will eventually get the same way we arranged to pay for the louet. In this way, I will be able to afford all the spinning equipment I could ever need!!

I bought a few more progressive and hard house music off Beatport.com and now that I am broker than broke (LMAO) I will go spin some more!
