Another one for the Wish List

The LYS had a demo knitted up in Hemp yarn of the Lightening Lace Jacket from Just One More Row. The more I looked at it, the more I wanted to knit one for myself in some Egyptian cotton or bamboo. MMMMmmmmm.....the LYS has a lot of nice cotton....so tempting....NNNNNNNNAaaaaaah!!

So that one is going on the wish list...maybe after I get the Kimono Wrap done (IF AND WHEN!!). I love how the Just One More Row has realistic sizing for us more abundantly plump knitters. How considerate! And more considerate is that my LYS carries the patterns!! I know of no other place that carries them in town and I don't need to know.

Tonight I am working on cleaning up some more Alpaca so I can continue to card more fiber for the yarn I am spinning up for the Kimono Wrap. The walnut dye did wash out of the yarn so I plopped it back into the bucket outside and I plan to ZAP it in the microwave to see if I can get the color to set in that bronze. I boiled some walnuts last night, the ones I had in my solar dyeing jar that had been soaking for the same amount of time, because they had not released their dye stuff. Weird. It was mostly green and smelled fermented. SO I boiled them for an hour before I went to bed, then this morning I boiled them for another hour before heading to work at the LYS. When I dyed some fiber in it it came out a nasty poop brown color. Nothing close to the bronze of the outside bucket. Doubly weird. Why is it that the walnuts sitting in an open bucket outside produce a bronze while boiled, they produce closer to black?! Anyone have an theories?

Natural Dying Results with Walnuts!

First the Festering Dye Pot which is essentially just a pot of soaking walnuts from nearby trees. This has been sitting and festering in the sun for about three weeks. I read that walnut dye needs no mordant because of the tannin in the walnuts acts as the mordant. I am not much for natural dyeing. I don't have the patience to wait for the results once I get into the mind set of wanting to dye. This is essentially the lazy ass method! LMAO!!

Here is a picture of a sample spun up of a batt I blended with Merino and Alpaca. The Festering Dye Pot smells like brewing mead and has a sweet and sour smell. Needless to say I hate getting it on my hands, but squeezing out the liquid is the best method I know of to gauge what the yarn will look like dried.

And here are the results after only 24 hours of sitting in the Festering Dye Pot WITH NO HEAT. I wonder how much yarn I can plop into this Festering pot before the dye exhausts? We'll find out. I am gonna test this sample to see if the dye washes out. I just love the bronze coloring! The odor of the Festering Dye Pot did not linger in the yarn after it was dried so that was a pleasant surprise.

As Fall come this soon?!

The temperatures and weather is very reminiscent of fall...which is still a good month away...according to the calendars. Not to say I am not enjoying the cooler nights which I sleep so well in, but I am concerned as my tomatoes are just now starting to form. They were late to bloom for some reason. The yellow jackets in the rock wall are super busy and that leads me to believe we will have an early Fall.

I am almost done with the package to send to my fiber frenzy pal. I just need to get out and harvest some golden rod to send along for her to try and dye with. I think I will send the Sumac and Elderberries as well, if only to get them out of the freezer! I do not have patience to use natural dyes. I don't like to wait around for the results...or for no results.

Mom called and said she should be getting some inheritance money to travel up to see me with soon. She is so excited and so am I. The BF however is not. Party pooper. Mom has said she doesn't like him, but I have told her tough shit, he's here to stay so get used to him. Mothers.

He doesn't get excited much for anything really...not from what I can tell anymore. He is so distant. You'd think after almost 10 years together that he would be more open to me...yeah...right. I dunno what is going on but I suspect something is. It just seems suspicious to me that he does not want me to tag along to the nights he says he goes to the club. He says it is because I want to come home earlier than he would like to leave (which would be bar-time, 2AM), but you think the man could sacrifice a bit of time for me?! No. Humph. I FINALLY got us some renters insurance. The man has been draggin his feet about getting it for years as I have been nagging about it for years. So now I am paying for it. You'd think he ought to help with it, seeing how most of the apartment junk is his. Always claiming not to have the money, yet he always seems to have enough to buy leather goods for himself. I suppose spending on yourself is not a bad thing, I do it all the time (and I hide most of it because I don't want to make him feel bad) I dunno why I feel that way about his spendings. If he would just be more open to me I would not be so supicious of him. He can't give a straight answer to save his life. I ask questions, I TRY to be involved in his life but it has become more and more evident that he does not want me to be apart of his life more than I already am. I am more like a friend with benifits and that angers me. What happened to the love?! What happen to the coo'ing man I fell in love with so long ago? The one that whispered how much he loved me when he thought I was alseep. Has that dissolved? The one that used to send me love notes....I miss those days.

It makes one ponder that maybe he loves another. I dunno. If he would just communicate I am sure we could fix whatever bothers him. He says I have anger issues. Yes, I do, and that will not change. When I get frustrated, I get angry, and I have absolutely NO support and NO way to express my frustrations without having him walk off not wanting any part of it. Well hell! No wonder I have anger issues!! I have no emotional support!!! See, now I am angry again...spilling it all into my blog because no one else gives a flying shit. *siiiiiiiigh* Well, that is not true, Mom gives a shit but she is 400 miles away and at times she is frustrating because she sometimes does other things while we are on the phone, and I can tell, because she does not pay attention -OR- she it is because she forgets things that I have told her before.

Sometimes I wonder if he is jealous of my achievements? I love karate and I am very proud of my progress as it is something I have always wanted to do but never thought I would be able to; and I display it on a wall (certificates of completion, belts, awards, etc)...but I don't do it to shove it in his face. I do it to remind me of what I have done and what I am capable of doing because I don't have that kind of support for myself so I have to provide it. He seems to be interested in my karate progress, which is great, but I think deep inside he feels jealous. I tried to get him to join as well. There are three couples that go to class on a regular basis, but he was not interested. I think it would do him some good. It would help with his growing tummy (cute little buddah bellay!) and I think it would give him some sorely needed confidence in life. He has taken fencing, and he has shown off his skills to me (which is fun...I only wish we would horse around like that more often) but for some reason he does not want to take it. I think he thinks he cannot afford it. Well, if I can afford it, so can he!

I am like a little kid in a grown-ups body. I just wanna have fun. If it ain't fun, I want no part of it. I like the internet, but I don't want to be obsorbed in it all the time. You'd think he would have figured this out by now!!

Ohhhh blahhhhh-blahhhh-blahhhhh! Same 'ol shit...just a different day. *groan*

Rug burnt toes!

Blah...rainy day blues...

Kinda sorta. I just don't feel like doing anything after three days of blech...but we need the rain so I curse it not.

I stopped by Whole Foods this afternoon and bough a Burt Bee's facial kit and an organic chocolate bar for my Fiber Frenzy person. Hopefully she knows not who I am so this will be a surprise!!

Then I went and picked out a belated B-day card for a dear friends B-day I forgot...until now...it was on July 31st!! ACK!! I'll send some money along too that I am sure will make her day! While I was at Halmark they had some ceramic plaques on sale for 75% off (how can I resist that!?) so I bought a large one that says"Love who you are" and I plan on putting it in the bathroom. Believe it or not, that bathroom is sometimes a sanctuary for me when the negativities of life have a hard grip on me. What better place to put it than there where I will see it when I need it the most. Not to mention I am in there everyday to get ready for work. Not only will I see it, but so will the BF. Maybe it will lighten him up some aye? I hope that is more than wishful thinking. *sad-siiiiigh*

I finished the Dark Side of the Moon two days ago and I miss listening to it and knitting the flower basket shawl!! I got so much knitting done while I listened to it...and boy-howdy did it have some hot scenes!! Holy smokes! Wish I had a romance like that!! Unfortunately the author leaves you hanging on the fate of one character till the next book, and the library does not have any others by this author in circulation on CD. I hate that! She only has one more book on CD, so I requested that they purchase it.

I took the books on CD back along with a bunch of others that I have not gotten around to reading, and I don't think I will. No sense in having them lay around here so I can forget when they are due...and end up making more donations to the library in the form of late fees....ACK! I did find another book on felting...one more recently published called Simply Felt. They did not have anymore books on CD that sounded all that interesting to me. Most of what they had were crime mysteries...or ones centering on a cop who's life was spiraling out of control, or dooms day novels. Blech...not my cuppa tea. I like fantasy like the Dark Side of the Moon. I have been waiting for a copy of Brother Odd by Dean Koontz from the library all summer and I am still pretty far down on the list of people who have it on hold. *pout*

Then before I had to come home I went to the grocery and bought some steak for cookin on the indoor grill, a cantalope, and some premade pesto. That wracked up A big bill quick! OYE-VAY!! But I had a fantastic lunch of medium-rare steak rubbed with garlic granuals, kosher salt, and pepper with sunny side up eggs and toast. MMMMm, that'll keep me till supper!!

Tomorrow is the last day of summer school so I will have two weeks off before the start of the regular school year. YAY for time off!! This is one of the reasons why I like this job so much!

Dawn of a Day

Dawning of a Day

How *interesting is the new day
as the last of the *starlight
retreat into *dimples of *shimmery light.
Slowly, the night brakes way
as just over the horizen a growing golden light
that the Sun *streaks across the land,
Waks all creatures
to a brand new day...
even the most *subborn of creatures
cannot resist it's *appealing nudges!
The morning dew *shivers
as the air gently warms,
a mist glitters in the golden rays
and I am enthralled
as I *cherish this new day.
Any *creative *block I may have
is shattered by the song
of the Morning Dove,
As she coo's gently in my ears,
to *enthrall me in Her morning song,
and to *insist I wake to meet
the Sun's rays of this new day.
*If only I could hold on to the power
of the Dawn, the peace and
Magic it beholds,
throughout each new day...
I would never lack the inspiration
I struggle to seek
as I struggle with the mundanitites
of everyday modern life.
Therefor, I look forward
to the magic of each new Dawn,
and greet it with an open heart
and open arms,
as the Morning Dove coo's Her song.

Fiber Frenzy package!

Whew! Look at the fibery goodness! I was on the phone when I hear a loud "plop" at the front door. EEEEE-package!

My Fiber Frenzy pal sent me some ooOOOOh so gorgious shades of green and turquoise superwash wool roving (OMG!!!!!) and some silk of the same colors (lighter because they were both in the same dyebath at the same time and silk talkes longer to dye, but OMG I love the color!). They remind me of what I imagine the sea would look like as it crashed up against some rocks, showing an array of greens while it foams up. Heavenly!

She is in Kansas so she sent along a Kansas mug with a tornado on it...LMAO! Cute. Next she added some chocolate covered sunflower seeds that are a lot like sixlets (she couldn't find them but says these are a local favorite) only a lot more addictive!! These will be gone in no time!! *munch-munch-munch* Then there is a honey lotion bar...OMG I love those, and some root beer lip gloss. Never had root beer lip gloss so that is a first for me!
I love it all so much!

Now I need to get my arse in gear and send my pal her package. I can reuse the box and packing material that my stuff was sent in (sweet!!).
