*sniffle-cough-sneeze....sniffle*

OOOoh my allergies!

Ugh...

Something at the yarn shop totally triggered my allergies today. I think it is a combination of the cold, fall mold starting to bloom because of all the rain we had, and dust...and lots of it.

Ugh...*sniffle*

Next Saturday I am so taking some Claritin.

Today marks the first day of the Mystery Shawl KAL and although the first clue and test swatch was posted earlier today, yahoo was not loading. I was finally able to access the group to get the file printed out. I really think the test swatch should have been released ahead of time.

Here is a pile of roving I've pulled from various dyed batts of blended targhee. My foot is there for a comparison of the pile...my poor skeeter bite riddled foot. One of the downfalls to wearing sandals to work...the skeeters can get at your tender foot flesh and even on my instep! *faint* They itch so much I scratch till I bleed, but then they stop itching.

Anyhoo's, I blended the wool with some glitz to get that sparkle that reminds me of the frost or dew in the morning hours that the new day's rays illuminate. I'll be spinning this up tonight and hopefully workin on the first clue by tomorrow's new rays!

Until next time...

News::Salty Burger Lands Employee in the Slammer

http://wkow.madison.com/News/index.php?ID=14728:

This was on the Offbeat News at one of the local stations website....can you say "Abuse of Power?!"

"Salty Burger Lands Employee in the Slammer

UNION CITY, Ga -- A salty burger has landed a McDonald's employee in the slammer and facing criminal charges.Kendra Bull spent a night in jail because a police officer's burger was too salty -- so salty he says it made him sick. Bull is charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct. The Georgia woman tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she accidentally spilled salt on hamburger meat. She says workers "tried to thump the salt off." She says she ate a burger made with the salty meat and it didn't make her sick. She says the officer should have thrown the burger away after one bite."

WTF is this officer thinking? He didn't like the burger so he ate it ALL and then throws the employee who made it in jail? WTF is up with this abuse by law enforcement!? I would so sue that officer for wrongful...something or another because this is bullshit! What is this world coming to?

Next we won't be able to fart in public!

Until next time...

Yarns for KAL's

I mailed out the Scarf for the Orphan foundation yesterday. I got some yarn striped dyed for the Mystery Shawl #5, however, I HATE the way the "Deep Orange" came out. The recipe for this shawl is fall colors. It looks like hunter orange to me, and makes the yarn look like a failed 1970's color experiment. YUCK! I tried dyeing some fiber but it still came out that nasty hunter orange. Deep orange my ass ain't big!!
Solution, half an 1/8 teaspoon of black or brown dye. That tones it down just right. No pictures of that just yet.

Then natural colored yarn is lace weight Border Leicester for the Secret of the Stole that I got from a local farmer at the Sheep and Wool Festival, from a lamb named Lenny. See the dime? I only partly washed the grease from the wool so that there would be some grease to work the lace with. The singles are about the size of upholstery thread....yikes!

This-N-That

Whew! I have been busy with work and cleaning fleece that I have not had the time nor the energy to post to zee blog!

OYE!

I only have a couple hours free time now during the week, the dishes need done, I need to knit a test swatch for TWO mystery knits...one is about to start this Saterday and the other is having contests to encourage people to make swatched...which have to be done by Saterday. I still need to spin and dye the yarn for it!! Oh yeah, amd the floor could use a good vaccuming too!

OYE!

I went to the first guild meeting and showed off my Wing of the Moth shawl. There was a rush of OOOO's and AAAhhh's when I got it opened all the way. It was sticking to itself because it had been laying over the back of the couch for a couple of months. I would like to wash it in some Eucalan wool wash, but it is so big that blocking it again is not on the top of my To-Do list at the moment!

I also want to make some moth repelling sachets sometime. I found a bag of purchased rovings that had carpet beetle larva in it. GRrrrrrr. That is in the freezer. I don't have a moth problem, I have a carpet beetle problem. They came from outside sometime last year and I find them everywhere, not just cozying up in my wool stash.

I dragged out a bag of targee I washed some months ago and was almost overwhelmed in cloud of mold!! CRAP!! So I found the source for the smell and it seems that a batch that I cleaned and put away was still damp. So that has been setting out all week, drying and airing out. I sprayed the batch with some Fabreeze in an effort to dissapaite the mold smell.

I've discovered that I like to spin in the grease and that I like the wool to have some grease still on it after washing. So it is wash once, rinse twice...if it needs it. It is much easier to spin two-ply lace yarn in the grease as it provides some grip to the fiber. It doesn't get yanked out of my grip as easily either. I can't wait to get that lace flyer from the LYS.

Spinning at the Festival

I went back to the Sheep and Wool festival today to help with the sheep to shawl demonstration.

Here is MY Trusty wheel and I unloading some low twist singles for weaving.

And here be the weaver:

I went to the Fleece show and sale area and while most of the better fleeces were all ready taken, I did find a 10 lb bag of Rambouielette (sp??) for $10 that was marked for commercial. That just means it was not as skirted as it could have been. It's oober soft like targhee and merino. Then I found 2 lbs of wonderful Shetland, skirted for handspinning. Here it all is all bagged up. I gotta tell yeah, I think I will save all my spendings for fleece for the festival because I can see, touch, and smell the fleeces before I buy them. And they are priced right with no shipping to pay. The closet is now officially overflowing with bags of fleece....must resist purchasing anymore for another year! I think I cought someone's cold...or maybe it was the exposure to so many allergens there at the fairgrounds but now I have the beginnings of something in my head. Stuffed up sinuses...the beginnings of a sore throat...blah. All worth it though. I had fun and now I am exhausted...just in time for the new work-week to begin. Yay.

The Stash:

And I designed a nice page for journaling my fiber stash. Click the photo to be taken to where you can download the word document for your own stash management needs.
