Apple Spice Beer and Lined Mittens Update

There is nothing like starting the weekend out with some seasonal beer...M, M beer! It's pretty good although it doesn't pack a punch like a Red Lager does by the same company. I really like the red lager and creamy dark. This apple spice beer is like candy beer but it's different than the other candy beers (I call them candy beers because they taste like candy...only with alcohol added instead of vitamen C. HA!) and you can still taste the yeast, which I like. Apply yeasty goodness. The bottle says it contains cinnamon...but I cannot taste it.

I finally got enough Icelandic 3 ply spun up to start knitting the liner to my first mitten. It was a somewhat ruff yarn before setting the twist, but now that it has dried and has been knitted up it's actually quite soft! A pleasure to youch and feel...yah...yarn p0rn rocks. LMAO! All I did to begin the liner was to pick up the same number of stitches along the beginning edge of the mitten.

But because I am using a smaller needle to provide a tighter fabric, I had to increase more to get the width of the mitten. So I have been relying on measureing to keep the liner about the same size as the mit. I did make it slightly bigger than the mit because I remember reading somewhere that the liner that another person knit in this way had to be reknit a little bigger to fit correctly inside the mit. Learning from another knitters frogs, PRICELESS. Ribbit!

I dunno when I am gonna get back to writting my story, I suppose when that writing bug hits me again. Not like it's a contest that has a prize for the winner, or has winners.
Life's a lemon and I want my money back. Posted by Picasa

I'll probably do something fancier on Windows Movie Maker later on.

Cardboard tubes or paper? PAPER!

Okay I've seen the posts about the cardboard tubes for winding yarn onto and how dandy they are, but being more poor than rich, I find ways to get things done without having to spend more of that precious green than I have too.

TP rolls, can be used on a standard ball winder if you jam something along the sides, from the top, to keep the TP roll from flying off at you or off in some random direction along with your ball of yarn.

What I did was take a clothes pin apart and jammed the slim ends in first between the TP roll and the center of the ball winder. Place each opposite one another and really push them down, the roll will not brake or tear unless there is already a brake or tear there to begin with. This keeps the ever valuable TP roll in place while you wind your yarn. When you are finished, the pin is easily put back together and clipped to something nearby to have on hand to use later on. EVERYONE has TP rolls. Why pay for MORE cardboard when you can reuse what you have already purchased?! Reduce, reuse, recycle man!
I love TP! TP for my bung-hole?! I am CornHolio! NAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaH!

Speak Out!

Until next time...

YAY! I got a bunch of 3-ply Icelandic yarn done over the weekend of the computer crash, oh how I like to term it "Computer took a wicked SHIT!". HA! It took me about a week to spin up three bobbins full of fine icelandic singles to make the right sized three ply that I was want to knit liners to my mittens with. It's super scratchy though so I will not be able to knit it for anything that will be against my sensitive skin areas like my neck. I work one of the skiens like a scarf to guage the ruffness....it was super ichy. What a dissapointment. But the yarn came out beautifully and I believe that I am getting better at plying. The plys are actually sticking together instead of coming apart after setting.

YAY!

I am still working on my mittens. I've stopped knitting for a few days in order to play with my new camera toy and getting lots of nature photography done to enter in the Nature Conservatory photo contest. I think I have about 30 or so entered now.

Go Democrats!

I see the world coming to it's senses. I wonder if the Pres thought the people of the USA were not paying attention as he got rid of the Democrats in office, one by one. We cannot have a balanced government with one or the other in majority. But now that the Democrats have the majority, maybe we can finally move forward.

CRASH!! Goes the Bush Agenda! YAH! Take that you fools.

On the other front, I am sorely disappointed in Wisconsin. The marriage amendment passed (were they change the actual wording of the amendment stating one MAN and one WOMAN instead of two loving individuals). I believe it is the catholics trying to push their beliefs onto the rest of the nation. Not everyone holds the same values or beliefs and they cannot get that threw their world domination bend brains! I am beginning to hate religion in any form. It's the root of so many problems!!

I see this as the first step backwards as many more attempts to infringe on our rights follow this horrendous passing of such a STUPID and UNNESSASARY amendment. It's an amendment made out of and from spite of those who live differently, and of whom believe differently. Soon we will be dictated as a Nazi nation, not as a free nation. Next to go will be reproductive rights, namely, woman rights. I will move out of this state if that day ever comes. I will never support such extremists view, values, and minds by living in a state that passes such bullshit amendments.

I've been taking more and more photos for the photo contest being held by the Nature Conservatory on flickr. This one I added a focal effect though Picasa2. An all natural cauldron.

You can see more photos like this that I have been taking with my new canon digital toy by clicking the photo. It will take you right to where the rest of my photos are stored for viewing.

Preparing for winter and a beautiful sunset

I am preparing for winter a little better this year than previous years. This year I bought some window shrink film to cover the air conditioner up with since the cover that came with it when we moved in has warped over the years and does nothing to keep the cold from coming in. It was easy to do using my handy dandy embossing heat gun rather than a hair dryer (of which I don't have...no need for it). I over heated one spot creating a hole, so I duck taped it. Horray for ducks' tape! LMAO This type of sealing will also keep those damned eight legged critters from trying to find a nice warm place to nest overwinter. *shutter* I have a slight touch of arachniphobia which at times can be a little wierd when you live next door to a healthy wooded area where spiders abound!

Then there is this beautiful sunset I captured last night. This is the woods next to our apartment. I have the camera pointing more upwards to avoid photographing the garbage bin (so unsightly!)

Until next time...

What season are you?

You Belong in Summer

Energetic, creative, and very curious about the world...
You're not going to let anything hold you back, especially a cold day.
Whether you're chilling out at the beach or partying all night, you live for the warm weather.

Yep, that's me!

November Full Moon 2006

Here is the moon photo I promised. So erie with the leaf-less trees! I love it and I am ordering a poster of it from Staples.

OH what a weekend!!

Not only am I now two days behind on my writing, the computer took a huge crap and I have been internet-less all weekend. That is so hard when you are used to accessing it at all hours of day and night, and is especially painful when I want to write mor on my story! LMAO But we have hooked up an older computer to 'hold me over' till we get the newer one fixed. We just spend a combined $300 on upgrades (faster motherboard, a pentium 4 1600 Mhz processer that is double what we did have, a new floppy drive because the old one took a shit, and a new power source because that took a shit too!!). We tested a powersource at the computer shop and purchased it when we confirmed it worked, but when we got it home, it took a shit on us! Argh!
On top of that, I was rear-ended Saterday Morning after getting coffee at Starbucks and on our way out to the computer shop...computer in tow. Let's not forget that my old whiplass injury from the first rearender six years ago has acted up so I have delt with the pain of that. My neck and shoulders hurt when I type for long periods, knit, or drive. Luckily I can spin with no pain so I have gotten a lot of that done this weekend. So now we have to go get an estimate to get the bumper fixed, again, because the BF was rear-ended earlier this year! The bumper is still new! OYe-oye-oye...

On the brighter side of things, I did go ahead and get a new digital camera (because the BF said he was gonna fix the puter) and it takes great video and pictures! I got a wonderful picture of the moon from Saterday night. I'll post that from flickr soon.

Meanwhile, I have posted two videos from my new camera in previous posts. One is of my baby Merlin (who is female) and one of my tortoise Zarnan (who is a guy I think).

So the moon was full, and some astrological thing must have been happening because boy...what a weekend!!

Until next time...

Zarnan

Another video of my other pet, Zarnan the russian tortoise eating his favorite treat, mixed veggies. There is a loud fart in the beginning as I took this early in the morning and I tend to be gassy at that time. LMAO! Enjoy!

Please spare me your humble comments of the "proper"-ness of this treat. Treat should be interpreted as "not given on a regular basis". Variety is good.
Video of Merlin 2006

Some wonderful video that my new digital camera can take. Thank you again Youtube.com for allowing people to post videos for free!
The "Smiley" Intervention

Do you use a lot of explimation points and pictographic smilies?! You should watch this short "scientific" video.
