Pretty as a Peacock...I am in LOVE!

Take a look at this wonderful peice of lace work! This is the Pretty as a Peacock lace shawl created by Jae at Some Knitting Required. Click the blog link to be taken to her blog and read all about it. The Pattern is planned to be released for purchase on 10.15.07 on this page .

I plan on purchasing it when I get paid!

"This originated from a Focus On Lace class that I took at a LYS. The end project was to knit a lace shawl or better yet design our own. I took the class originally to gain confidence to knit the Fiddlestick's Peacock Feather Shawl. My teacher challenged me to knit a Peacock not just the feather.
I have received many requests to make the pattern available. So Ailsa from http://pick-up-sticks.blogspot.com/ is currently test knitting this for me using Louet Gem Opal fingering. If she doesn't tell me I write a crap pattern, it should be available soon. :)"

OOOoh my allergies!

Ugh...

Something at the yarn shop totally triggered my allergies today. I think it is a combination of the cold, fall mold starting to bloom because of all the rain we had, and dust...and lots of it.

Ugh...*sniffle*

Next Saturday I am so taking some Claritin.

Today marks the first day of the Mystery Shawl KAL and although the first clue and test swatch was posted earlier today, yahoo was not loading. I was finally able to access the group to get the file printed out. I really think the test swatch should have been released ahead of time.

Here is a pile of roving I've pulled from various dyed batts of blended targhee. My foot is there for a comparison of the pile...my poor skeeter bite riddled foot. One of the downfalls to wearing sandals to work...the skeeters can get at your tender foot flesh and even on my instep! *faint* They itch so much I scratch till I bleed, but then they stop itching.

Anyhoo's, I blended the wool with some glitz to get that sparkle that reminds me of the frost or dew in the morning hours that the new day's rays illuminate. I'll be spinning this up tonight and hopefully workin on the first clue by tomorrow's new rays!

Prayer Shawls: to create or not to create...

Prayer Shawl Instructions

I never really took a good look at this site before today and I have no idea why. I was a member of the yahoo group for a time, but they never said much if anything so I left. I love the page with all the prayers on it, prayers from all types of belief systems, even one to the Goddess and I really appreciate that they have not discriminated against other systems of prayer.

A blog I read a lot, Caffinna's Creations, is telling of her hardships in dealing with the discovering she has cancer but one of the most common forms of endometrial cancer which is 100% treatable with a very high recovery rate. Regardless, she is having difficulty sleeping at night and dealing with the normal everyday functions. I can understand why. If those readers here would visit her blog, and just leave some words of encouragement on her most recent posts, I am sure this will help her immensely.

I seem to feel her anxiety as I read her entries and I dunno why I have this connection but I strongly suggested that she knit herself a prayer shawl for the recovery months ahead. I do believe it will be an immense tool of healing and comfort when the time of healing comes for her. But, the more I read of those Prayer shawl pages, the more I have an urge to knit one specifically for her. I don't know her personally, only through a couple of groups. I have no way of knowing if she likes me or not...considering the vicious lies that have circulated about my method of dealing with the flakers and haters in the last swap I hosted. My it return three fold upon them. SO mote it be. But this post is not about them as they have no power over me but she was in that swap I think also. I remember seeing some nasty comments from her somewhere. But I am compelled to forgive and forget in a time of emotional turmoil such as this. No one deserves to suffer in this way and why it is that some of us are chosen to suffer through this type of illness is unknown, but I believe what does not kill us, inevitably makes us stronger in so many ways, even spiritually.

So now I ponder...should I start one for her...or not? Should I ask her first? Yeah, I think I should ask her first because if she is unaccepting of the gift, then I will have wasted my power, time, and materials to create a tool of healing for someone who many not accept it.

Ribbon Stole on my hand-made needles

Here is the update I promised on the UFO I have on my hand-made dowel knitting needles. It's coming along nicely!

The last photo is some stitch detail with the ribbon yarns I am using (which are not what is called for in the pattern, but they are similar-just CHEAPER!!!). Right now it looks like a nice lace curtain! So I may just knit some of these up and use as panels on the patio door! Or even as a curtain to "hide" crap on the shelves in the living room.

My Moth has hit a bump in the knitting road.

ACK-ACK-ACK! Moving right along...until *screeeeeeaaaaaaach!

If anyone has done this pattern and can help me...here is my problem on the reversed stockinette stitch between the pine cone and twin leaf patterns. Row 4.

What I have knitted: one stitch, a marker, a YO and 3 stitches before the new marker on one end (for a total of 4 sts), and on the opposite end, I have one stitch, a marker, TWO stitches, and the newly placed marker. Did I miss something? Should there be such a variance on the two ends?

Here is the line I followed:

"K1, *SM, YO, P4, PM, purl to one st before the next marker (which would be the one before the middle stitch) , PM, P1, YO, SM, * K1 (center st), REPEAT FROM * TO *, END K1"

The note says "stitches between new markers will be worked in the Twin Leaf pattern....stitches outside those markers will be worked in stockinette, with 3 sts on each long side in reverse stockinette to balance the lace pattern.

I have four sts on one long side end, and two on the other! ACK-ACK-ACK. I've emailed the maker of the pattern and the Wing of the Moth shawl...but...I am impatient to keep knitting! I am half done and I cannot wait till it is finished and I can show it off!

I am majorly confuzzled...

Making Knitting Needles Part 4-with WIP

Vuela! They are a little longer than I am used to working with, but they do the job nicely!

This is the beginnings of the Crossover Shawl found in Ribbon Styles. I bought most of the yarn through knitpicks.com, and some I found on sale at a local fabric store last summer. I didn't know then what I would make, but it has a purpose now! The camera really does not due the colors justice, and focusing on it was a hurtle! Click photos for larger version. Yay! Ribbon Styles!

I finally got the Ribbon Styles book from the craft book club along with a crochet encycopedia. I figure someday I will need to use crochet again, and last time I missed the knitting encylopedia edition. *pout*

Now I can get started on the CrossOver shawl on page 29. Yippie!!!

I need to go to Susans Fiber Shop for some more Synthropal (sp?) so I can dye some more yarn soon. I think the sythropal would have helped the silk in the mixed plied skien absorb more dye.

I also need to stop by the artist supply store for more dye for a special someone, and some for myself. Too bad they are not on sale this week. *pout*
